As the weather cools down we’re taking cover and heading indoors for inspiration as the local design scene warms up. June has turned into a showcase of creative talent. Check out the expos and shows that are catching our eye…
- A time-traveller’s style event, 200 YEARS OF FASHION until 31stJuly 2016. (MELB)
This must-see sartorial extravaganza is staged across 4 large galleries, displaying 120 works by more than 90 designers. The exhibition showcases a host of internationally acclaimed Australian designers such as Jenny Kee, Dion Lee, Ellery, Romance Was Born and Toni Maticevski, while bringing together impactful, iconic and historical designs from the past 200 years. From colonial dress to a 4m gown of crystals, Australia’s unique sense of style is highlighted through fabric and impeccable design.

The Queensland Art Gallery is featuring works from one of Australia’s finest contemporary landscape artists, Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda Sally Gabori. First holding a paintbrush at 80 years old, Sally’s works portray a distinct abstract artistic language full of light, colour blocks and an irrepressible desire to show the world through the eyes of her people, the Kaiadilt.

Warwick are excited to be a part of this benchmark event, now in its second year running. Held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), Denfair is a three day design spectacular featuring artisans, craftspeople, makers and innovators from Australia and around the world. Over 300 brands on display offer a curated collection of cutting edge and bespoke furniture, lighting, textiles, soft furnishings, homewares, artwork and objects that reflect an original and purist approach to design. The exhibition is a hot bed of creativity, bringing together creative vision and function, big names and big thinkers.
Why we love it? DENFAIR is for ‘design forward thinkers’ where exhibitors encourage you to reset the standard, to think further and delve deeper for creative solutions for modern living. With equal focus on emerging and established brands, DENFAIR is also a great opportunity for industry networking.
Highlights? With ‘9000sqm of pure design’ this trade-only show will open its doors to the public for one day only on 4th June 2016. Warwick will be in the Textiles District with our latest releases on show at stand T24 – drop in!

- Experience the inimitable style and strength of a woman who has inspired generations. FRIDA KHALO 25thJune – 9th October 2016 (SYD)
A striking exhibition of over 40 artworks from two key figures of Mexican 20th Century art, Frida Kahlo and her husband, Diego Rivera. The exhibition features self-portraits by the revered feminist as well as a series of 50 photographs, from the likes of Frida’s father and others, captured at various points of the couple’s ‘tempestuous lives’.For more information on this exhibition please click here - An artistic force to be reckoned with. Natural forces, wind currents and cyclic vortexes are the subject of an incredible body of work. Video pieces, installations, sculpture and drawings respond to the random occurrences of natural phenomena in a collection that spans over 25 years of practice as well as including new, site specific works just for Mona.

Hecker Guthrie, one of Australia’s most awarded interior design firms have been invited to guest-curate a William Johnston collection. Fairhall’s stately rooms have been transformed into an antique dealer’s emporium. The museum pieces have been rearranged to represent a working store replete with stacked, storage like spaces, disassembled pieces and designer sales tags to ‘tell the story from a different perspective’.

- Have a light bulb moment at Sydney’s VIVID FESTIVAL, 27thMay – 18thJune 2016. (SYD)
Vivid lights up Sydney with a technicolour display of creativity, light projections and interactive illuminations. Attending the city’s most iconic destinations, over 1.7million visitors are captivated by an ‘outdoor gallery of light sculptures’ and a modern music program that traverses underground, across the sky and inside out for a memorable, design led experience unlike any other.

The Ian Potter Museum of Art at The University of Melbourne hosts a celebration of textiles and their many compositions. With new and existing works from Australian and International artists, the exhibition blurs the lines between contemporary art, textiles and fashion. Textiles at various stages of production and deconstruction reveal fabric as an art form while delving into each artist’s particular interaction with the physicality of their work.

With its distinctive, Australian Made nucleus, this two day event captures our imagination with its diverse and unique range of locally produced furnishing designs from across Australia. FIF brings together over 65 industry leaders, influencers and innovative, emerging brands at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC). Manufacturers of furniture, soft furnishings and bedding have a presence at this widely attended, trade only event that attracts both local and interstate visitors.
Why we love it? Not only is this Australia’s largest showcase of exclusively, Australian made furnishings and design, it’s also an opportunity for the industry’s best and brightest to talk shop, trends and talent. FIF is a non-profit exhibition run by the team at Warwick, aiming to present a raw, authentic design platform that lets quality and innovation take centre stage.
Highlights? Listen to guest speakers Darren Palmer (interior designer, writer, speaker and media personality), Peter Maddison (multi award winning architect) and Andrea Lucena-Orr (Colour Expert at Dulux Group).
